The Bass:

The Bass Player, together with the Drummer, form what is called the Rhythm Section of a group, They are  like the canvass of a painting, They create the backing beat, driving force, a low profile leader and tightness necessary for a successful group. The Bass are the ones who creates Harmony and  they are  the ones who controls the music of the group , they are also the backbone of the group. Bass is Harmony in a sense that they are also called Sideman, they are not usually the star and do not indulge in too much soloing activity like the piano man nor the guitar man but they create and improvise there own musical bass lines  which serves as a guide for  others  they put order and harmony  and they should not play on theyre own, they serves as a connection between different instrumentalist and the vocalist as well. The Bass Man is the foundation of the group but he does his works in a silent way without overlapping others but you can always feel the presence of its power. During the early seventees the bass played a  different  role participating as a lead man instead of the usual sideman and this was popularized by Jazz electricbass greats like Jaco Pastorious and Stanley Clarke etc. But this new role played by the bassist didn’t change its position on the group but instead added this to its unlimited repertoire of what the Bass can do, the bass should and will always play the part of a low profile leader in which it will always be called the sideman, foundation keeper and should not forget this role for there are plenty of soloist bassist nowadays who forgets the real role and essence of the bass which is the One who creates Harmony and Balance who plays a low profile key role. So This is why i Love the Bass, Always Keep the Harmony!
